| | | | Leading European pet food company achieves higher level IFS | | | | | | 11 June 2007
Arovit Petfood, the leading European petfood supplier has become one of the few UK production sites to achieve the Higher Level International Food Standard (IFS), audited by ISA UK Bodycote Law Laboratories, for the second year running.
Arovit, which manufactures a range of own label dry and wet food for dogs and cats, as well as treats, has six production sites in five countries, and has achieved the IFS standard for its UK operation in order to achieve the highest uniform standards across its European operation.
Developed by German retailers to remove much of the subjectivity and scope for interpretation found in other audit reports, the IFS standard has been adopted by the French and is now the preferred method of inspection for both French and German retailers. ISA UK Bodycote Law Laboratories was the first body permitted to offer the IFS Standard in the UK.
IFS is based on a scoring system with five critical criteria including the implementation and control of HACCP, with the level achieved by the audited determined by the scoring system. It is this focus on quality control that is being increasingly demanded by European customers, and which led Arovit to choose IFS. The company’s marketing manager, Ella Price explains:
“IFS is one of the key standards we choose to reflect our quality focus. IFS does require stringent control and support, and retailers are increasingly scrutinising quality standards at every stage of the supply chain. By achieving the higher level IFS for the second year running, Arovit is staying ahead of customer need for increased traceability and industry-standard evidence of best practice.”
