Bodycote Health Sciences, one of the UK’s leading providers of testing and advisory services, has added a fifth company to its expanding food and consumer products division with the acquisition of Glasgow-based Foodscan Laboratories.
Formed in 1992 and the first laboratory in Scotland to achieve UKAS accreditation for food microbiological testing in 1993, Foodscan employs 18 staff. The company carries out chemical food analysis and microbiological testing to food manufacturers and retailers. Foodscan was founded by Bill Gemmell who built the business on his sound knowledge of the industry and his experience in contract labs. Bill will be leaving the business but has been working closely with Bodycote to ensure a smooth transition and continuation of the high level of service expected by his clients. Debbie Craig who has worked previously with Bodycote Health Sciences in Edinburgh will take over as laboratory manager.
Foodscan has already worked together with Bodycote on a several projects in the past and will now join the other food testing laboratories acquired over the last 18 months by Bodycote Health Sciences – LawLabs, Allied, Tetra and Norpath.
Liz Paterson, Sales & Marketing Director, Bodycote Health Sciences comments: “Bodycote Health Sciences is fast being able to offer a UK-wide network of independent, high quality laboratories for the food industry. This means we are able to manage client projects quickly and efficiently, which is good news for today’s fast paced industry. Foodscan and Bodycote have enjoyed a good working relationship and we’re delighted to have the company on-board and wish Bill all the best for the future.”
