Name: James Williams, CChem, MRSC, MIFST
Job title: Divisional Director of Food and Consumer Products

James was a founder member of Law Laboratories and became Managing Director of the company. He studied part time, obtaining a first class honours degree in chemistry. He is a Chartered Chemist, a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry and an active member of the Institute of Food Science and Technology.

James joined British Industrial Plastics in 1977. A move to Birmingham City Public Analyst Laboratories three years later, provided him with the opportunity to extend his working knowledge in a wide range of analysis relating to food, toxic waste and consumer protection samples. In 1985 he joined the Meat and Livestock Commission as Legal Services Laboratory Manager. Now, James is Director of the Food and Consumer Products Director.


Name: Charles Fuller, BSc C.Biol MI.Biol MIFST

Charles Fuller holds a Degree in Applied Biology majoring in Industrial and Food Microbiology, graduating in 1982. He is a chartered Biologist, a member of The Institute of Food Science and Technology and the Professional Food Microbiologists Group.

Charles has had over 20 years of experience within the food industry and began his career as a Microbiologist with Bass Brewers. Since that initial employment he has spent numerous years with various Consultancy firms, advising food and pharmaceutical industry clients on all aspects of Microbiology and Good Manufacturing Practice.
In recent years he has been a regular visiting lecturer in Industrial Microbiology both at Wolverhampton and Nottingham Universities.

Charles joined LawLabs in 1996 as Principal Microbiologist with responsibilities for running the Food and Water Micro Labs and to conduct third party assessment of Manufacturer’s laboratories to the LabCred Standard based on ISO 17025.

Charles has responsibility for microbiological methodology and accreditation across Health Sciences.


Name: Don Brown, CChem, EurChem., MRSC.,MIFST, Pesticide

Having already worked for eleven years in the agrochemical industry Don Brown took a degree in Applied Chemistry graduating with honours in 1983. Following this he worked for Campden Food RA, & Fisons Horticulture before joining LawLabs as Senior Analyst in 1989.

He was promoted to Principal Analyst in 1992 and to Food Chemistry Manager in 1995 taking responsibility for the full range of nutritional, compositional & residue testing services provided by LawLabs.
In May 2003 Don was appointed as Pesticide Services Manager in order to focus on the development of new facilities and methodologies for the analysis of pesticide residues in food. He is a regular attendee at National and International Pesticide Residue Fora including PRC meetings, and European Pesticide Residue Workshops, and has recently presented the results of new method developments at conferences and in Trade Journals.

Don is a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry, a Registered European Chemist and a Member of the Institute of Food Science & Technology and the British Mass Spectrometry Society.

He is also a UKAS trained ISO 17025 Lead Assessor and co-author of LawLabs laboratory accreditation standard LABCRED.


Name: Jamie Weall
Job title: Advisory Manager

Jamie joined Law Laboratories in January 1998 and since then has been involved with validating a variety of retailer food specifications and the legal approval of own brand labelling. This has included providing cover within retailer technical departments as well as giving general advice on a wide cross section of trading standards matters.

Jamie graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University in BA (Hons) Consumer Protection Degree. After leaving University Jamie spend nearly two years as a Regulatory Officer for a large Health Food Manufacturing company advising on labelling issues and overseeing the re-labelling of over 600 new branded products.

Jamie presents numerous training courses on retailer own brand specifications and also on general food labelling. Jamie is fully qualified as a Lead Assessor for the purposes of ISO 9000 quality auditing and has completed the Level 4 Diploma in Management.
